Based on the single-kernel characterization system, means and standard deviations for kernel size and texture are 30.9 and 6.8 mg for kernel weight, 2.4 and 0.5 mm for kernel diameter, and 56 and 17 for kernel hardness. Resistant to soilborne mosaic virus, moderately susceptible to stem rust (Puccinia graminis), susceptible to stripe rust (P. striiformis), and moderately susceptible in the adult-plant stages to P. triticina, though seedling plants show a susceptible reaction to races of leaf rust currently prevalent in the southern Great Plains. Known gene designations are Sr17+ for stem rust and Lr3+ for leaf rust. Moderately susceptible to tan spot (Pyrenophera tritici-repentis) but susceptible to powdery mildew (Polymyxa graminis). Insect reactions include susceptiblity to greenbug (Schizaphis graminum) and Russian wheat aphid (Diuraphis noxia), and a heterogeneous response to Hessian fly (Mayetiola destructor). Reaction to aluminum toxicity and low-pH soils is highly tolerant, placing it in a category unlike the vast majority of HRW wheat cvs. Possesses no wheat-rye translocation. Grain protein levels average 1.5 percentage units less than 2174, a high-protein comparison. Mixograph mixing time and tolerance rating are considered medium (5.1 min and 4.3, on a 1-10 scale).
